Tank Requirements

Water Wisteria is available worldwide, but it flourishes in the Indian ocean, where it gets a lot of sunlight with warm waters.

Luckily, these conditions can easily be adjusted to develop at home as well. And it is also an undemanding plant that can thrive in many different situations.

Because of its size, the Water Wisteria is only suggested to be installed only in larger aquariums. An aquarium that is at least 10 gallons is necessary to keep this plant safe and protected.

A temperature within 75-82°F is necessary for a natural process of photosynthesis, which will eventually determine the plant’s growth.

The pH must be within 6.5 to 7.5, and the water should be moderately hard.

It is dependent on you to add extra fertilizers for growth, but it is not mandatory.

And make sure that the plant is rightly placed in a lot of light and not in any shaded or dark place.

Planting Water Wisteria

It is necessary to plant the Water Wisteria with the right substrate as it is crucial for its growth.

As the Wisteria can be found rooted in the sandy substrates, it is the ideal condition needed to plant the Wisteria in your aquarium.

But, be sure to install the plant properly with roots placed so that it holds up the plant firmly and gathers nutrients efficiently.

Plant stems of the Wisteria in an area with a lot of access to light as, without it, the plant will not develop naturally.

Care and Maintainance

The Water Wisteria plant’s most well-known issue is that it is a fast-growing plant, and keeping its size down is going to be a tedious task.

But, you can quickly cut the stems to the size that you want for the aquarium.

The larger plant can block light inside the aquarium, so it is advised to cut them from time to time.

Adding extra nutrients or supplements can trigger exponential growth if you think that the plant is not propagating well.

If your plant turns yellow or brownish, it is a sign of iron deficiency, and to prevent this, you must fertilize them properly with tabs or a nutrient-rich substrate.

Tank Mates

Water Wisteria can be kept together with other plant species but be keen to provide some space for them to grow into the tank.

It works best when it is put together with smaller fishes, snails, or shrimp as they are not going to eat it.

But, some must not be put with Water Wisteria like the Goldfish or the Rainbowfish, which might damage the plant by eating it.

This plant is the most useful when it comes to breeding aquarium tanks. Its broad leaflets give many hiding positions or places for procreating and protect young fry who may run at the risk of being eaten by larger fish.

Many varieties of cichlids are great to put aside Water Wisteria except some of them that may remove the stems or roots like the Oscars.

Other excellent fishes to put aside this plant are Corydoras Catfish, Dwarf Gourami, Guppies, Bettas, Rasboras, Cherry Barbs, Swordtails, and many more.

Shrimps can also be paired with this plant, but most of the snail species are going to eat it, so you must avoid them if you want to install Water Wisteria into your tank.

Conclusion

Water Wisteria can be easily added to different tanks or setups, as it is not troublesome to take care of it, plus, it makes the tank look more attractive and brighter.

Correctly install the plant into the tank as it will get propagated with time. As this plant is easily reproduced, you must cut or trim them from time to time.
